Our Children's, Housing and Adults' Services are key to achieving this vision, along with the finance teams which support them. The Finance teams contribute to the council's success through ensuring the highest standards of financial practice, promoting efficiency and value for money, and delivering customer focused services to meet the needs of our internal and external clients. Sound financial strategy and management underpins the Council's work in all areas.

We have a strong track record in delivering our objectives.  We have built on our 2004 accolade by the Audit Commission as "the fastest improving council in the country" to consistently receive an overall rating of three stars for the last three successive years.  The CPA results for 2007 show that Islington continues to improve well and demonstrates good overall performance.

We are currently out-performing many national trends.  A recent achievement is that Adults' Social Care has improved to a three star (excellent) service, while there have also been some very positive trends in services for children and young people, with a huge improvement in education attainment.  Our Housing service is at the forefront of national policy, with an established ALMO, a portfolio of successful PFI initiatives and an ambitious development programme.

We work proactively with partners in the Islington Strategic Partnership and across the local community.  We are undertaking a number of large scale projects, including refurbishing all our secondary schools as part of a major investment programme worth over £130 million and building new council homes in the borough with our ALMO Homes for Islington.
